"Get me down!"

Cliff Hanger and the Chuckling Chickens is a book from the The Adventures of Cliff Hanger book series.

Story[]

Cliff Hanger is hanging from a cliff and he can't hold on much longer. While hanging from a cliff, Cliff looks up and sees a group of chuckling chickens (six child-aged hens) with a chair tied to a chain. Cliff asks them to get him down, but the chickens (child hens) think he's asking for down feathers. Because when one of the chickens looks up the word "down", it tells her that the word "down" is just a pillow or cushion made from feathers by a young bird. So the chickens all wrestle with each other to sew up a pillow out of their feathers. After the chickens make a cushion out of their feathers and it's now on the chair, Cliff tells them that down has another meaning as well. He says, "IT'S THE OPPOSITE OF 'UP'!". One of the chickens, she tells Cliff to "enjoy his down". She says, "Enjoy your down! And you can keep the change!". The chickens let go of the chain to let Cliff keep it and Cliff can "go down". They chuckle, then (offscreen) fly away featherless. Cliff Hanger is back to where he started from and he once again can't hold on much longer.
